Jeppesen, a unit of Boeing Flight Services, recently agreed to a four-year crew management contract with EVA Air, a top international carrier based in Taiwan. Through the agreement, Jeppesen will provide EVA Air with its industry-leading crew management solutions Jeppesen Crew Rostering, Crew Pairing and Crew Tracking. The agreement also includes Jeppesen fatigue risk management tools to enable scientific prediction of operational crew fatigue, to maximize airline safety and enhance operational efficiency.
Jeppesen’s world-leading optimization capabilities will be used to increase operational efficiency and maximize safety while reducing overall costs for the more than 800 pilots at EVA Air and its subsidiary UNI Air who serve the fleet of 78 commercial aircraft. The crew management solutions agreed upon will support EVA Air through the crew planning process, from long-range planning to the day-of operation services.
“In a challenging business landscape, optimized crew management is vital for reducing costs and increasing efficiency related to airline operations,” said Tim Huegel, director, Jeppesen Aviation Portfolio Management. “We are pleased to deliver the Jeppesen crew management suite to EVA Air, providing Crew Rostering, Crew Pairing and Crew Tracking solutions along with fatigue risk management tools for this important carrier of the Asia-Pacific region.”
The web-based Jeppesen crew portal bid module included in the agreement is a tool allowing crew members to influence their schedule by bidding on desired flights and destinations, thereby increasing their on-the-job satisfaction. In addition, the Jeppesen fatigue risk management solutions will help EVA Air identify and alleviate the risk of crew fatigue, using Boeing Alertness Model functionality included with the Jeppesen crew management solutions. The Boeing Alertness Model (BAM) allow airlines to identify problematic flights and create crew schedules that are less fatiguing, based on scientific principles and operational data from crew members. By integrating BAM with the crew management systems’ optimizers, crew schedules that are both safer and more efficient can be produced.
