Jeppesen, a part of Boeing Commercial Aviation Services, today introduces a pre-release, trial version of Mobile FliteDeck VFR, a new navigation and planning solution designed specifically to enhance the flying experience for private pilots. The new mobile application for iPad builds on Jeppesen’s mobile architecture to serve the needs of visual flight rules (VFR) general aviation pilots.
Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck VFR includes features and functions necessary for VFR flying, with flexible route planning, enroute charting, terminal charting and text information presented in a fully interactive design. Truly interactive, dynamic flight information is presented for a seamless VFR navigation experience, from taxi and departure to enroute and parking. Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck VFR also allows for management of planned, actual and past flights, providing simplified access to preferred flight data.
“Building on our family of successful mobile solutions, Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck VFR is our latest application that is designed for the needs of VFR pilots,” said Tim Huegel, director, Jeppesen Aviation Portfolio Management. “For VFR operations, we determined that a specific, powerful and easy to use application needed to be created to meet the needs of this pilot segment. Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck VFR is the outcome of this heavily user-design centric development process that will simplify the flying experience for VFR pilots.”
Jeppesen applied its vast experience in the field of electronic flight bag (EFB) development to study the cockpit workflow of VFR pilots. The effort comprised extensive flight trials and feedback from more than 500 private pilots globally. The resulting Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck VFR is designed to serve to the needs of the VFR community. It features a simple, intuitive user interaction design, which reduces overall pilot interaction and workload.
The full Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck VFR application will be available through the App Store on iPad for customers in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and France this May. A version of the application is expected to be introduced for the European and Americas markets later this year.
The new VFR application is backed by the quality of Jeppesen’s global flight information, which is presented in a unified standard in Europe for all flight data and follows rigid specifications and validation procedures. The Jeppesen commitment to data quality is reflected in information solutions serving airline and military IFR operations to private pilot VFR flights.
Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck VFR will be available for a free download and trial phase through the App Store on iPad or at www.itunes.com/appstore/.
