Jeppesen JetPlan Flight Planning Engine Enhanced for European Operations

Improved ERAD optimization functionality enhances flight planning efficiency

Englewood, Colo. | 26 Jun 2013 | By Jeppesen

Jeppesen, a part of Boeing Digital Aviation, recently completed upgrades to its industry-leading JetPlan flight planning engine to enhance flight planning capabilities for business and commercial aviation operators, particularly within Europe.

Enhanced JetPlan European Route Availability Document (ERAD) and route optimization functions work to quickly comply with Eurocontrol routing requirements and determine flight plans that maximize efficient fuel consumption and flight scheduling. The Jeppesen JetPlan engine powers Jeppesen’s flight planning solutions, including the JetPlanner application and FlitePlan Online tools.

“With increasingly complex global flight planning airspace requirements, especially in Europe, these new ERAD and routing features are significant scientific advancements that will help simplify critical flight planning tasks for operators,” said Tim Huegel, director, Jeppesen Aviation Portfolio Management. “Simpler compliance capabilities related to regulatory requirements reduce overall workload, increase efficiency and reduce costs for operations in Europe and throughout the world.”

The enhanced Jeppesen JetPlan engine allows for increased acceptance of optimized route plans by the Integrated Initial Flight Plan Processing System (IFPS) that are fully compliant with Eurocontrol requirements. Optimized routes determined by the JetPlan engine also are now compliant with other European efficiency standard organizations, including the UK Standard Route Document (SRD) and the Airspace Use Plan/Updated Airspace Use Plan (AUP/UUP).

To maximize efficiency, the JetPlan engine calculates the sum of fuel, enroute charges and time to achieve cost-effective route plans. Altitude and other air traffic control restrictions are also considered by JetPlan as part of the process to create efficient flight plans. Overall, the enhanced JetPlan ERAD functions ensure compliance with the policies, procedures and descriptions for route and air traffic orientation, including network and airspace usage rules.

The Jeppesen JetPlan flight planning engine has been trusted by business and commercial aviation operators for more than 30 years.
