Wideroe Gains Paperless EFB Authorization Using Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro

Norwegian carrier uses mobile EFB services to operate efficiently in challenging terrain

Wideroe, a leading regional carrier of Scandinavia, recently gained authorization to operate in a paperless environment, using Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro electronic flight bag (EFB) solutions delivered through iPad and Aviobook EFB software. Jeppesen, a part of Boeing Commercial Aviation Services, helped Wideroe gain the fully digital Civil Aviation Authority of Norway operational approval that is effective on Oct. 1, 2014.

Widerøe has been transitioning its flight operations over the last year, using Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro. This transformation has focused on eliminating paper-based flight materials while operating with digital solutions to increase efficiency, reduce operating costs and increase situational awareness in flight

“Paperless authorization from the Civil Aviation Authority of Norway allows us to complete our vision for using fully digital data solutions to meet the unique operational challenges of flying in Scandinavia,” said Helge Anonsen, Wideroe deputy director, Flight Operations and EFB administrator. “Jeppesen data has been essential for meeting our domestic and international operational needs over the years and FliteDeck Pro now provides the foundation to remove cumbersome paper-based materials and access real-time flight information with the tap of a finger.”

Elimination of paper-based materials from airline operations allows Wideroe to increase operational efficiency through reduced fuel burn from weight savings and improves pilot situational awareness related to access of critical flight data on screen. Wideroe pilots also no longer need to spend time filing paper chart revisions, which allows for more time to complete other essential preparation and operational tasks.

The airline’s use of Aviobook EFB software allows for transition of Jeppesen flight data and information between all mobile and desktop airline systems. Flight information with FliteDeck Pro is displayed per the preference of the operator, allowing for organization of data that meets actual workflow requirements of pilots.

Jeppesen provides Wideroe with tailored navigation data, an essential component of the carrier’s operation, which includes challenging terrain, short duration trips and variable weather conditions while flying in Norway.
