Rossiya Airlines of Russia Gains Paperless Authorization Using Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro
Elimination of paper helps airline operate more efficiently, reduces pilot workload
Rossiya Airlines, a part of the Aeroflot Group, recently gained authorization from the civil aviation authority of Russia to operate in a paperless cockpit environment, using Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro as its electronic flight bag (EFB) solution. Rossiya Airlines and Jeppesen, a part of Boeing Commercial Aviation Services, earlier teamed to integrate the airline’s fleet with iPad-based Class 2 EFB technology. The clearance from the Russian authority allows the airline to eliminate paper-based flight information, which reduces fuel consumption and increases overall operational efficiency.
“This EFB authorization marks a key milestone in our process to eliminate bulky, paper based flight materials from our operation and go fully digital in the flight deck,” said Yury Shchepilov, chief of Rossiya Airlines Aeronautical Information Service Department. “The use of iPad with FliteDeck Pro provides simplified and fully portable access to all critical flight information with the tap of a finger at any time, on the ground and in the air.”
Rossiya Airlines has integrated mounted Class 2 EFB on iPad to digitally replace the traditional pilot flight bag that can weigh up to 50 lbs/20 kg each. Full Jeppesen navigation information, Runway Analysis charts and operation manuals are provided for Rossiya Airlines pilots through FliteDeck Pro on iPad, eliminating the need for hand-filing of paper charts and information. This digital transition reduces weight per flight, which significantly reduces fuel consumption on an annual basis.
“In a challenging and competitive airline market, operators are seeking ways to reduce costs and operate more efficiently,” said Tim Huegel, director, Jeppesen Aviation Portfolio Management. “FliteDeck Pro on mobile devices helps airlines eliminate clutter in the cockpit, offers a customizable display per pilot preference and significantly reduces hardware costs, compared to installed systems. We congratulate Rossiya Airlines for completing their significant digital transformation and we look forward to continuing to help the airline reach their destinations safely and efficiently.”
All Jeppesen flight information, including aeronautical charts, ICAO documents and operation manuals are now easily viewed and accessed by Rossiya Airlines pilots, using FliteDeck Pro. The unique, data-driven display of FliteDeck Pro allows pilots to view real time information to enhance proper decision making and workflow capabilities in flight.
