FliteDeck Pro 5.1 is here — Here’s what you’ll want to know

FliteDeck Pro 5.1 has landed in the Apple App Store. We’ve been digging into the new features, and it looks like the dev team has packed some pretty solid stuff in this update—especially if you’re doing long-haul or international ops.

Whats new in FliteDeck Pro 5.1

1. The Briefing Module Just Got Smarter

If you’re flying ETOPS or dealing with Class II airspace, this is a big one. The Briefing Module add-on now includes:

  • ETOPS fuel info right in the OFP.
  • Support for EASA fuel compliance logging—no more guesswork on discretionary fuel.
  • Detailed ETOPS alternates, including critical time, fuel, altitude, and conditions for suitable and adequate airports.
  • Class II airspace navigation checks—helps cut down on GNE risk.
  • RVSM checks, FIR boundaries, and even custom pilot agreement statements.
  • Tapping FIRs from the NavLog now highlights them on the map with more detailed info.
  • Quick toggling between OFP Alternates and the NavLog makes the flow smoother.
  • Oh—and you can now see weather and NOTAMs for ETOPS alternates without leaving the app.

The new enhancements bring the Briefing Module right in line with how pilots actually work—especially when managing complex international routes.

2. Climb Phase Fuel Optimization

If you’re a Boeing or Airbus pilot using the Cost Index Optimization add-on, you are already slashing your cruise fuel use by 1-2%. Now you can now optimize the climb phase—not just cruise. For now, it’s Boeing-only (sorry, Airbus folks), but it’s the same interface you’re already used to.

3. New Global Forecast Radar Layer

There’s now a combined observed + forecast radar layer, which animates over time. Super helpful if you’re crossing data-light areas or dealing with developing convective weather offshore.

4. Custom Range Rings

You asked, and Jeppesen delivered: You can now create custom range rings around any fix—airports, waypoints, even volcanoes (very practical). Good for approach planning, holding, fuel checks, etc. They persist across sessions and are easy to tweak.

Other nice-to-haves in FliteDeck Pro 5.1

  • If your operation uses tailored data, there’s better ETOPS ring management, cleaner company waypoint filtering, and fleet-specific chart notes.
  • AvioCast AID support added—broadens connectivity options, especially helpful if you’re flying mixed fleet types.
  • Parking stand guidance: Pick your stand and you’ll see a clean taxi line to follow. Feels like a small thing, but it’s a nice little win after a long flight.

Bottom Line

Many of these updates came directly from pilot and operator feedback—it’s great to see how quickly that input is being turned into meaningful improvements. The focus in 5.1 is clear: reduce complexity, especially for international and data-driven ops. If you’re working with ETOPS, Class II, or just want more from your EFB, there’s a lot to like in this release.
