Jeppesen, a unit of Boeing Flight Services, today announces the integration of digital Jeppesen European VFR terminal charts for use on the Garmin aera 796/795 portable devices, targeted for introduction by May 1. Jeppesen digital VFR terminal charts provide critical navigation information for VFR pilots flying in Europe and are geo-referenced, allowing pilots to view their ownship position and flight plan directly on the chart display.

The Jeppesen VFR terminal charts library contains 2,200 airports of 29 European countries. Integration with the Garmin aera 796/795 portable devices allows ease of access to VFR-specific information, including traffic patterns, reporting points and noise sensitive areas. Providing versatility and convenience through a hand-held touch-screen avionics device, Jeppesen VFR terminal charts on Garmin aera 796/795 units enhance pilot situational awareness within the highly congested European airspace.

“Integrating digital Jeppesen VFR terminal charts with the exciting Garmin aera 796/795 handheld units offer pilots improved access to critical European VFR approach data,” said Tim Huegel, director, Jeppesen Aviation Portfolio Management. “Delivery of subscription-based Jeppesen VFR terminal chart data is provided through the convenient online Jeppesen Services Update Manager system and follows 13 annual cycle updates, providing pilots with the most accurate European VFR data available in the aviation industry.”

Use of Garmin aera 796/795 portable avionics units with Jeppesen VFR terminal charts offer pilots reduced paper in the cockpit, as required approach charts are delivered in digital form, rather than cumbersome paper. Equipped pilots are also able to switch between VFR and IFR modes, depending on weather conditions or aerodromes available.

“VFR pilots in Europe depend on these charts to make critical flying decisions,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin’s vice president, Aviation Sales and Marketing. “We’re pleased to work together with Jeppesen to offer customers an electronic solution that presents the information conveniently in context on the area 796/795 display and takes pilots another step closer to a paperless cockpit.”

For a limited time, customers are able to receive 15 months of Jeppesen European VFR charting data on Garmin aera 796/795 portable devices for the price of 12 with the purchase of a one-year data subscription. To learn more, visit the Jeppesen booth at Aero Friedrichshafen starting April 18 or call Jeppesen directly at +49 6102 5070 for Europe and Asia or +44 1293 842404 for the UK, Middle East and Africa. This promotional rate is valid through August 31, 2012.
