Jeppesen and Swiss International Air Lines recently agreed to a new contract to provide Jeppesen Crew Pairing, Crew Rostering and Crew Bidding solutions for the Zurich-based carrier. The Jeppesen Crew Pairing, Rostering and Bidding system being implemented will increase operational efficiency by shortening the crew planning process, while also providing increased crew system data accuracy.
The crew management system provided by Jeppesen will allow the airline to create crew pairings at a minimal cost through integrating Jeppesen crew pairing optimization solutions. The Jeppesen Crew Rostering application allows for creation of crew rosters that consider crew preferences, relevant constraints on duty time, rest time, days off, time zones and other factors.
“Our studies have identified clear and concrete benefits that are offered by the Jeppesen crew products, such as providing better support for our crew members when they enter their bids using an entry validation process,” said Rainer Hiltebrand, chief operating officer, Swiss. “Additionally, the new crew bidding and planning interfaces will be connected, creating a new system that will immediately present our crew members with scheduled assignments and available flights.”
The Jeppesen crew management system meets the demands of a rapidly evolving airline business environment, by adapting quickly to staff needs and market conditions. The new system will also work to spread overall Swiss crew workload more evenly through a blend of “preferential bidding” and “fair share” crew rostering practices. Jeppesen’s experience with both crew operating procedures was a positive determining factor for Swiss to sign the new agreement.
“The Jeppesen crew management system will help Swiss optimize their crew operations to reduce overhead costs and increase overall efficiency,” said Thomas Wede, Jeppesen senior vice president and general manager, Aviation. “In a highly competitive commercial aviation marketplace, we are pleased to enter into this new partnership with a leading carrier of Europe by providing a high level of service and understanding the unique crew management needs of Swiss.”
Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) serves 73 destinations in 39 countries throughout the world during its summer air service schedule. The airline operates a fleet of 87 aircraft from its Zurich, Switzerland hub and from additional Swiss international airports in Basel and Geneva.
