Jeppesen and South African Airways have agreed to a three-year digital charting navigation, electronic flight bag (EFB) and document management service contract that includes the new Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro class 1 EFB application integrated with the airline’s fleet-wide portable laptop computing operating system. South African Airways is the flagship air carrier of South Africa.
Jeppesen solutions provided in the multiple-service agreement work to assist South African Airways in continuing the transition from using paper to implementing digital navigation information solutions. Jeppesen’s industry-leading applications in the agreement include tailored Web-based e-Link Online charting that provides a digital connection to Jeppesen terminal chart coverage and FliteDeck Pro EFB software with airport moving map (AMM) and data distribution management (DDM) technology.
Jeppesen will also assist the airline with transitioning to digital solutions for flight operations, by providing South African Airways with several document management services. These include an electronic conversion of the airline’s existing Operations Manual Part A and the Cabin Crew Manual. Creation of a new Operations Manual Part D that outlines the training operations of South African Airways also is included in the agreement.
“Jeppesen is leading the commercial aviation industry in helping our customers transition from paper to digital navigation information and airline operations solutions,” said Thomas Wede, Jeppesen senior vice president and general manager, Aviation. “The suite of digital solutions integrated by South African Airways provides the airline with operational cost savings opportunities and information certainty delivered to the cockpit across a mixed fleet of aircraft.”
South African Airways is the leading air carrier of South Africa and operates a fleet of 56 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, flown by the airline’s 800 pilots. South African Airways, Africa’s most awarded airline, operates scheduled flights to more than 40 domestic and international destinations.
