New Data-Driven Features of Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck App Simplify Route Planning and Enhance Pilot Interaction on iPad

Rubber-banding route planning, lock screen capability and operation manual uploading highlight new app features on iPad

Jeppesen, a unit of Boeing Flight Services, has introduced new route planning functionality for its industry-leading Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck app for iPad. The added features simplify the route planning process for general and business aviation pilots through the ability to enter user waypoints and manipulate route creation and display via a new “rubber-banding” feature. This feature automatically designs an optimized flight path that avoids obstacles and provides alternative routing options.

Additional new features introduced in the updated version of Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck include lock-screen functionality to eliminate the chance of current view loss caused by an accidental screen touch. Improved app symbols now include GPS strength indication, eliminating the need to verify tablet GPS signal strength outside of the app. Business aviation operators are also now able to upload and access operations manuals on iPad, using Jeppesen Document Management Services and a cloud-based distribution system with Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck.

“Pilots across the industry are experiencing how Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck transforms the flying experience, through enhanced situational awareness, reduced pilot workload and improved operational efficiency,” said Tim Huegel, director, Jeppesen Aviation Portfolio Management. “New features such as rubber-banding and waypoint entry capabilities for routing will further enhance the experience of integrating dynamically rendered flight information on iPad in the cockpit.”

Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck features true, data-driven and interactive digital enroute navigation information and worldwide geo-referenced terminal charts. Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck is optimized for all phases of flight and includes own-ship position and route overlay as well as the ability to view a complete library of terminal charts, airport diagrams and Jeppesen Airway Manual text information.

Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck streamlines flight preparation, simplifies complex processes, eliminates labor associated with paper revisions and reduces clutter in the cockpit. Fast rendering capabilities and opening and download speeds as well as low storage space requirements help to drive efficiency for pilots and operations staff.

Optional GPS functionality enhances situational awareness and allows pilots to follow the flight route with a spotter, or “own ship” position view and moving map for enroute charts. Enhanced full-color, high-quality information display with easy search, zoom and pan, ensures the right information is displayed at the right time.

Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck for consumer use is available for download at no additional charge for Jeppesen digital data subscribers through the App Store on iPad or at www.itunes.com/appstore/. To use the app, customers need a JeppView or Express JeppView subscription. For details on enterprise use, please contact Jeppesen.
