Top Airports for Flying into the 2017 World Series

The 2017 World Series has been set. This year’s Fall Classic will pit the Houston Astros against the Los Angeles Dodgers beginning October 24. Baseball fans and savvy travelers will need to fly on short notice to catch the games.  Those not wanting to fly commercial have some good options for taking a charter jet or business aircraft to the games.  Below are some great airport options for your aircraft to help you get in and out of the game with as little stress as possible.

Los Angeles

For those wanting to fly into Southern California to catch a World Series game at Dodger stadium, you’ll likely want to avoid LAX. The two most preferred options for corporate airports are below:

Hollywood Burbank Airport (KBUR) — 16 miles from Dodger Stadium

Van Nuys Airport (KVNY) — 20 miles from Dodger Stadium

Both airports provide full services: fueling, parking, transport, catering, etc. However, both are expected to be very busy during the World Series and ramp space could fill up. If the airport is full, operators could be sent to an alternate such as Santa Monica (KSMO) or John Wayne Orange County (KSNA). Operators should contact the FBO prior to arrival to confirm parking space.

Houston

If you’re planning on catching one of the World Series games in Texas, then your best options are actually Houston’s two biggest airports:

William P. Hobby (KHOU) – 16 miles from Minute Maid Park

George Bush Intercontinental (KIAH) – 19 miles from Minute Maid Park

Both being major commercial airports, they certainly provide services such as fueling, parking, transport, catering, and more.  But because they also have a very regular and steady amount of commercial airline operations, business aviation operators are encouraged to call the FBO as soon as possible to confirm parking space and flight times.

For travelers flying to both locations, be aware of any TFRs over the stadiums and additional NOTAMs created for the heavy air traffic expected during game days. You can get the most up-to-date info on TFRs at tfr.faa.gov.
